We are in mourning for Alexander Tutsek
The entrepreneur, benefactor, and founder of the Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung Alexander Tutsek died shortly before his eighty-fifth birthday in Munich. Besides his successful career as an entrepreneur, Alexander Tutsek was a great supporter of art and engaged in various social areas all his life.
In 2000, Alexander Tutsek founded together with his wife Dr. Eva-Maria Fahrner-Tutsek the non-profit Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung in Munich. It sponsors art and science. Art made of the material glass as well as photography are the focus of this still young foundation.
Alexander Josef Tutsek was born in Romania and attended gymnasium (college-preparatory school) in Budapest. After attempting to flee the Soviet regime, he was sentenced to prison in Hungary in 1947. In 1951, he managed to escape from the Hungarian forced labor camp and went to Vienna. There he first worked as a journalist and founded a press agency. Three years later, he started to work for a company in Göttingen, which produced refractory products. Soon after, he took over the firm and developed it into an internationally active company.
Alexander Tutsek supported numerous cultural institutions with donations. For example, he gave The International Design Museum – Die Neue Sammlung in Munich a large collection of valuable furniture for its newly planned building. Today such pieces are difficult to find, even on the international art market.
When Alexander Tutsek founded his non-profit organization, one of his goals was to make the material glass in art better known and to lead it to the recognition it deserves. The foundation has acquired a distinct image and an excellent reputation. It organizes internationally renowned exhibitions, publishes catalogues, and supports artists as well as scientific projects.
With Alexander Tutsek, Germany loses an outstanding entrepreneur of the post-war era and at the same time a great art sponsor. The longstanding chair Dr. Eva-Maria Fahrner-Tutsek will carry on the ideas and visions of Alexander Tutsek in future as well.
